I began to mosaic twenty three years ago after completing my initial fine art training in sculpture and drawing. Mosaic is one of the most enduring modes of art practice. It is an ancient craft with many contemporary possibilities. As a technique, it is firmly placed in history with most of the early materials, tools and techniques still being used today. My ah ha! moment was when I realised that sculpture fused with mosaic was actually my match made in heaven.
After an earlier career as a high school visual arts teacher and art gallery educator I now work full time in my Woodford studio either teaching, making exhibition work or completing commissions.
I have lost touch with my first mosaic teacher Lucy Vincent but will be forever thankful for her guidance and inspiration. I also thank all those who have shared their knowledge with me since that time. Artists, educators and colleagues around the world and across many disciplines have shared their own skills, techniques and perspectives with me. As an artist I do not exist in a bubble but rather am placed within a rich web of history and ideas and the people that spend their days bringing them to life.
