ABOUTI began to mosaic twenty five years ago after completing my initial fine art training in sculpture and drawing.
The point I turned my whole life towards mosaic was when I realised that sculpture combined with mosaic was actually my match made in heaven. I choose mosaic as a medium as it simultaneously connects me to the present moment as well as to millennia past. It enables me to be across time, as well lost in time with fragments of stone and glass; found, broken and reassembled. The technique is firmly positioned in history with most of the early materials, tools and techniques still being used today. I have worked in visual arts education along side my mosaic practice for over 25 years. I now divide my time between making in my studio and developing and delivering the Art of Andamento Curriculum which is delivered through my international online school the Andamento Academy. I have lost touch with my first mosaic teacher Lucy Vincent but will be forever thankful for her guidance and inspiration. I also thank all those who have shared their knowledge with me since that time. Artists, educators and colleagues around the world and across many disciplines have shared their own skills, techniques and perspectives with me. As an artist I do not exist in a bubble but rather am placed within a rich web of history and ideas and the people that spend their days bringing them to life.
