AS ABOVE, SO BELOW.  2021

The making of mosaic simultaneously connects me to the present moment as well as to millennia past. It enables me to be across time, as well lost in time. Fragments of stone and glass; found, broken and reassembled to speak to the importance of Göbekli Tepe, as well as to the global and universal connections that our lost civilizations made with the stars.

Dimension: 46 x 49 x 9cm
Materials: Smalti, Oro, Dalle de Verre, Marble, Limestone, Travertine, Sandstone.

This work was made as part of the First Virtual Symposium of Türkiye in March 2021. I was invited to participate at by the Artistic Director Giulio Menossi along with 20 other artists from around the globe. We were asked to respond to the ancient astro archaeological site Göbekli Tepe, in eastern Türkiye.

Göbekli Tepe (belly shaped hill) is an archaeological site situated in southern Türkiye dating from 10000BC. It consists of up to 22 of stone megalithic enclosures built and then buried by Neolithic communities to observe the rising of Sirius from the constellation Canis Major over a period of approximately 2000 years.

Enclosure 6 - The largest and most well preserved of the enclosures formed the focus of the central area of my work.
For further information on this amazing piece of history I recommend watching the lecture 'Magicians of the Gods', by Graham Hancock.
